What Hurts The World Hurts Me 2008 This quilt was created for an anatomy class at Pennsylvania College of Art & Design. The project called for a human head revealing three layers of structure - bone, muscle and skin. If you've been following my site, you know that after freelancing for 4 years I decided to go to school and learn how to draw. Now drawing is fine, but a mere drawing would be an artist's conception of what I envisioned. It was time to assert myself and execute something ambitious. The skull is built from needled felt, mostly wool and acrylic over a foam core. The buildings and vehicles are carved from wood, then gessoed and painted. The trees are stitched copper wire, with needle-felted leaves. It all sits on a quilt pieced from cotton, backed with wool and edged in wool felt. Due to time constraints, it is machine quilted. |
